5 Tips to Finding a Great Support System in College

As a college student, being on the path to recovery can be very challenging. You will need a lot of support once you go back to school. This is one of the most effective ways to ensure that you stay on the right track.

The right support system can also play a major role in your academic success. Sure, you will need a lot of determination and motivation to meet your academic goals. But your college career will be more successful if you have enough of the right support when you need it the most.

So, how do you go about getting the right people in your corner? Here are 5 tips to finding a great support system in college:

1. Join the Right Support Groups

Many times, we will be motivated by our relationships and other social influences. Thats why its much easier to go to the gym or stick to a diet if you have a friend that holds you accountable. Otherwise, you might find yourself making excuses for bad behavior.

Support groups work in much the same way. Apart from holding you accountable, they also provide a safe space for you to share the difficulties of your sobriety journey. Recovering from alcohol and substance use can be very hard on your own. However, a good support group like that at WA Drug Rehab will be there to give you guidance and support when you need it.

2. Reach Out to Friends and Family

Your family should always be your first line of support. Even if they are miles away from your college, you could always call, email, or text them regularly. Not only will this give you a chance to vent about any difficulties that you are facing, but it will also help you feel loved and cared for.

Your friends are also another great resource. If theres anything that you feel you cannot discuss with your family, your friends will always be a great sounding board. You can get involved in on-campus activities to make new friends within your college.

3. Find a Mentor

One of the most important things you can do during your college career is to find a mentor. Making a connection with faculty members or any other professional staff can give you the motivation you need to go after higher goals. They can also offer you academic and professional guidance that you will find invaluable. And when the time comes to find a job or go to grad school, your mentor can help you make the right connections and write letters of recommendation.

When looking for a mentor, its vital to seek someone who has expertise in your field of study. It also helps if they are willing to help and guide you. If your mentor believes in you and can offer guidance that will help you achieve your goals, they can help keep you motivated and on the right path.

4. Make Use of College Support

Most colleges already have student support systems and staff that are available whenever you need them. This could include anything from student advisors to counselors and tutors. The best part of these resources is that the people who run them have a vested interest in your wellness and success. Check out the support systems that are available in your college and the find the best way to get in touch with them.

5. Communicate Your Needs

While all these resources are usually at the tip of your hand, they won’t do you any good if you don’t communicate your needs. It’s important to reach out to those around you early and often. That way, you will be able to get – or be directed to – the help that you need.

Daddy A's Birthday Celebration at Max's

Whew! Monday na naman. Back to work again. Bakit nga ba hindi na ako nasanay? It's been yearssszzz... Hehe.

Anyway, that's why we have weekends so we can make bawi with the weekdays we are so busy with work. Weekends are for our family. Agree?

Like yesterday, since Daddy A's birthday will fall on Monday, we had his advance birthday celebration.

Last year we celebrate Daddy A's birthday at Pizza Hut. We tried Max's Restaurant this time.

Here's my sister and Matthew while waiting for our order.

Here's the birthday boy naman.

We hardly go to restaurants because Matthew always wants fast food e.

Birthday Celebration, Max's Restaurant, #CelebrateToTheMax

Yesterday, I just talked to him to let his Daddy choose where we will celebrate his birthday. Pumayag naman. So we #CelebrateToTheMax!

We ordered this Max's best bundle lighter fare meal for 4 for 999.00 pesos only.

Max's restaurant, bundle meal for 4

Instead of Pinoy Ensalada, we had Spicy Ginataang Kangkong na gagayahin ko one of these days, hehe. We also add Seafood Lomi for 149.00 pesos only. Total bill of 1148 pesos, no service charge. Sulit na din for kuripots like us, haha.

So thankful for Daddy A's another year.

I will always be thankful for having him as my husband and my lifetime partner. I couldn't imagine life without him. May God grant the desire of his heart and keep him healthy and safe always.

We love you Chemist Dad!

These leaves too, I print then cut and paste. Namahalan kasi ako bumili nyan  before. But I bought 2 pieces for 50.00 pesos ata.

My Big Boy and His Ambition

Hello everyone! So excited that the school year will soon be over. Vacation is almost here and that means I could also take a break from reviews, home works and also making bento baon.

Anyway, this will just be a quick post. I am on leave today until tomorrow. I am planning to blog but there are many house chores waiting for me.

Aside from that, it's exam week of Matthew and we will have to review hard because it's fourth grading already. So here's my big boy.

He's getting bigger and bigger. Just look at his school polo uniform. Kakapatahi lang nyan ha. Where does time goes? I will have a binata soon.

This little boy also has an ambition already. Look!

Tsk... Lagot na ang mga kriminal dahil andito na si Police Office Matthew Andrei. Uubusin nya daw kayo. Hehe.

I feel proud that he wants to serve our country. Buts eriously and honestly, if you will ask, I wouldn't want him to be a policeman. I couldn't handle the fear that everyday he will risk his life chasing criminals and protecting people. But if that's what he really wants then we will support him. Anyway, he is still young and he may change what he wants to be. Hopefully...

That's for now and I'll try to blog later because I have many stories to share pa.

5 Tips on How to Decorate Like a Pro

Hiring an interior designer can be expensive. If you are looking for ways to spruce up your home on a budget, follow the tips below.

home, home and living, home beautification, home improvement, DIY Home Improvement, interior design

Put the Toys Away

If you have kids your home is full of toys. You don’t have to get rid of the toys, just beautifully disguise them. You can use a large ottoman. Choose a linen ottoman with studded accents for a classic look. If you need something that is easy to clean, change the linen fabric for leather material. Leather can easily be cleaned.

Its ok to have a wooden toy box in the room, just opt for something a little classier than a bright red plastic toy box. Try a white wooden box for a farmhouse chic look. This can be a peice that is used as an accent.

Whatever style you choose to go with, just remember that it needs to be easy for a child to put their toys away, or you may end up with toys everywhere.

Rugs

Adding a rug to a room can really dress it up. Try a rug with a bold pattern to be a focal point or dramatic accent. A solid color rug is a great way to add color to the room.  Rugs are also good for high traffic areas, which can damage flooring.

Window Treatments

Blinds are not enough. White blind can make a room look boring. You should use window treatments to add some style to the room. If you have a run in the room, the treatments you use should match. They don’t have to be the exact pattern, but they should have colors that match.

Accent Pieces

These are the smaller details that pull a room together. Add throw pillows and even a throw blanket on the sofa. This accents should match the rug and window treatments. Again, it doesn't have to be the same pattern, but a matching color. This is a good time to play with textures. You can add two pillows or as many as you would like. Mix and match textures, patterns, and colors.

Add picture frames and floral arrangements to the room to add a little style and flare. These are the small details that make the room more interesting.

Statement Pieces

This is the really fun part. You can get a little while with this. If you have white or light gray walls, throw in a bold red or lime green sofa to really add a wow factor to the room. You can also choose chairs that are unusually shaped. With your statement furniture, think outside the box. This piece will be the focal point of the rooms.

Remember, choose styles and furniture for your style and everyday use. The last thing you want is to constantly worry about cleaning it or messing it up.

Your Guide to The Perfect Mother of the Bride Look

This day is all about your daughter, the beautiful bride. You’ve dreamed about this day her whole life. You’ve pictured her in a stunning white dress. You’ve helped her plan this day for months, but you’ve neglected to find the perfect dress and look for yourself. We are going to cover everything you need from top to bottom.

wedding, wedding tips, Fashion, mother of the bride

Hair

Your hair should not be the same as your daughters. In fact, it should be opposite. If she wears an updo, you should consider leaving your hair down. Leaving it straight or adding some curls are both good looks.

If her hair is down, you should opt for something up. Either part of the hair or all of it should be worn up.

Makeup

For your makeup choose colors that are less dramatic. This may not be the best time to wear a bold red lip. Choose a soft pink or shades of nude.

As for the eyes, this is another area to go basic. Deep smokey eyes should be a look left for the bride.  Remember, you want to be beautiful, but not upstage the bride.

Dress

For your dress you can choose something that is floor length or just above the knee. Choose a color that is an accent color of her wedding, blush, or navy. You can choose a black dress if it is a black tie wedding.

To add a touch of elegance, choose a dress with lace. Lace sleeves, whether full or ¾, are a beautiful look, that can add a bit of sexiness to it.  Its ok to choose a dress that is form fitting. However, a skin tight mini skirt is not ok.

Nails

You can have a bit more fun with your nails. French manicured nails are always classic, but there are other options you choose. If you want a pop of color or a little extra flare, don’t be afraid to wear bold red nails. It is ok to play with the shape, as well. If you want to wear almond nails, go for it. Your nails won’t be noticed too much in the wedding photos.

Accessories

You have a little extra leeway when it comes to accessories. A nice pearl necklace is always classic. This is the area where you are safe to add statement pieces. A bold fashion necklace or earrings is a great way to add style to your look, without overpowering the bride.

Shoes

Classic pumps are a good choice. It is great to wear shoes that are nude, black, white, or the same color as the dress. This isn’t the time to add a pop of color that will stand out in pictures. You want to beautifully blend into the photos. Neon colors or bold pops of color should be saved for another day.

Remember, that you can still be beautiful without taking away from the bride. You want the attention to be on her, not on your brightly colored heels. Choose safe, natural colors for your dress, makeup, and shoes.

So that's our guide to look the perfect Mother of the Bride. Let me know if you have other tips.
