4 Principles of Effective Skin Treatment

Like the kidney, heart, and liver, the skin is also another important and most significant organ in your body. It is pretty easy to take it for granted until there is a serious problem. The skin has an essential duty to protect you and keep infection out of your body. That is why dermatologists recommend constant skin treatment to ensure maximum protection. Here are some principles of skin treatment.

Limit Bath Time
Using hot water and taking long baths removes oil from the skin. The average time one has to take a shower is eight minutes. For people who like to take longer than fifteen minutes, it is time to rethink and change their bathing routine. The recommended time for a shower is five to ten minutes. That's enough time to have your skin clean and hydrated without over-cleaning or under-cleaning. If you have dry skin, it is recommendable to use lukewarm water. Also, avoid hot water during the winter months. The heat can damage the surface of your skin, leading to inflammation and increased symptoms of dry skin.

Avoid Strong Soaps
It is well known that to keep your skin healthy, one needs to keep it clean. But what many don't know is that cleansing one's skin can be harmful. This especially happens if you cleanse it more often, aggressively, or using hard soap. Doing any of that would mean damage to your skin.

It is even worse if you combine it with the abrasiveness of products such as makeup remover. Using traditional soaps with irritants results in dry skin, contact dermatitis, inflammatory acne and throws off the pH balance your skin maintains for the body and face.

Pat Dry
How do you apply your skin product? This is a question worth sparking an argument about. Rubbing your skin, which most people do without minding the outcome, is a debatable beauty topic. According to experts, patting is preferable over rubbing. Some people are so sensitive that they can’t afford to rub their skin. They take it as far as refusing to use cotton pads on their faces and avoiding using face wipes. Avoid as much as you can, even a towel to dry off your skin. Embrace patting, which has been proved to be the best standard skincare application practice.

Moisturize Dry Skin
Skin dryness comes as a result of skin failure to retain sufficient moisture. It can be caused by bathing often and for long periods. The types of soaps, aging, or specific medical conditions can also result in skin dryness. And for people living in cold places, skin dryness can be triggered by the cold weather or dry winter air.

Cold winter air is low in humidity and causes raw, rough, and dry skin. The moisture on the epidermis reflects the humidity level. However, the situation is always manageable through ways such as keeping moisturizers in the skin. These rehydrate the epidermis and seal in the moisture. They are made of humectants ingredients that help attract water and petrolatum ingredients that help seal the moisture in the skin.

Skin treatment has always been a challenge, with people trying different methods that result in more severe skin problems. If you're among people struggling with varying skin conditions, schedule your treatment in Medspa today.

Let's Join Kris Aquino and Fucidin® in the Fight Against Wound Infection

I am a paranoid mom when it comes to wounds. When I see pantal palang on my son's skin, naloloka na ko. But you know accidents happen and no matter how careful we are, we can't stop it from happening. So imagine how I reacted when my son had his burnt accident 5 years ago.

My son had a second degree burn on his right face and chest because of hot water! That was my worst day ever that I don't want to look back na. But when you see my son now it's as if he had not experience such accident. The wounds were healed without any scars. How it happened?

Fight wound infection. Scarring happens kasi once the wounds got infected. Just like Kris Aquino, let's fight wound infection with  Fucidin®.

At the recent Fucidin Mom’s Unite Against wound infection, Kris Aquino, the Queen of All media, share how she cares for her sons’ health and well being. She said, “I have two boys and when they get a cut or a wound, I clean it with soap and water for 15 seconds. Then, I apply Fucidin® agad. Fucidin® is part of our wound care kit!”

Kris Aquino, Fucidin®, wound infection

Just like my super active little boy, children are exposed to different types of wounds and scrapes because of their daily activities. Even in the most harmless-looking places, no matter how hard parents try to protect them, they can still get hurt.

We need to make sure the wound doesn’t get infected. Infection occurs when bacteria enters the wound through a break on one’s skin. Bacteria may spread and lead to more serious diseases. Usually, our immediate response is to wash a wound well with soap and water. But cleaning may not be enough. It is also essential to apply a topical antibiotic like Fucidin® at the first sign of wound infection.

Fusidic acid/sodium fusidate Fucidin® is a powerful antibiotic that is clinically proven against wound infection. It is fast-acting, working on the infection 2 minutes upon application and deep-penetrating, reaching the skin’s deepest layer 30 minutes after application. It also helps prevent bacteria from spreading.

Fucidin® has two variants. Fucidin® cream is ideal for exposed parts of the body like the face and hands, while Fucidin® ointment is ideal for dry, scaly or cracked lesions.

Mommies, let's join the fight against wound infection!  Like Kris, stock up on Fucidin® and don’t take chances. Fucidin® is available in leading drugstores nationwide.

Baby Skin Care Tips by Nivea: Different Types of Baby Skin

My son has a sensitive skin that is prone to rashes. Good thing I have learned about tea bath. Since he is having tea bath, skin rashes won’t show off even on hot weather.

Because of my son’s sensitive skin. I am hesitant to buy baby lotion. I have tried applying one brand of baby lotion but his skin feels greasy and perspires more. I feared that because of perspiration, his skin pores will be blocked and will cause rashes.

Then I saw this Nivea Baby Nutri Sensitive Milk Lotion. Of course, it takes me some time to be finally convinced to try this product. Finally, last Chinese New Year, I decided to buy one.  I can’t find any trial pack so I bought this 200-ml bottle.

What really makes me want to try this on my baby is its natural omega 6 lipids plus it has shea butter.

I immediately tried it on my son’s skin. I gently rub an adequate amount on his skin. I observed if he will perspire more. To my surprise, he didn’t and his skin is not greasy.

Every night, I apply it on his skin to keep it hydrated and soft.

Baby skins are different from one another that is why you need to check what his/her skin type is. My son has a dry and sensitive skin that is why Nivea Baby Nutri Sensitive Milk Lotion suits his skin.

Baby Skin Care Tips by Nivea: Understanding and Caring for Baby's Skin

Babies are delicate just like their skin. For first time mom like me, caring for my baby's skin is one big task I'm dealing with everyday. Even now that my son is 18 months, I make sure that he is using safe and hypoallergenic baby products.

Aside from using hypoallergenic baby products, giving our children nutritious meals is important too. To ensure that were not adding too much oils and seasonings to their diet, try adding news flavours with the best electric smoker.

The common baby's skin problems are heat rash, diaper rash, infant acne, eczema and cradle cap. Heat rash or prickly heat are tiny red, itchy bumps on the skin. In the Philippines, babies and children as well, are prone to prickly heat because of our humid weather. Aside from using a hypoallergenic soap, I give my son a tea bath everyday. Want to know how? Yes? Okay, I bought tea bags from SM Hypermarket. I'm not promoting though, I bought 100 pieces Natures Pride Green Tea bag for only 82.50 pesos. Put a tea bag in a cup, add hot water then mixed this to about a liter (1-2 tabo) of water that will be used as your baby's last rinse. You can let your baby soak for awhile to better absorb the tea. Tea has natural antioxidants that is very healthy with the skin. But we must always remember that every baby has different skin type so what is okay with my baby will not mean good for your baby too.

Diaper rash, on the other hand, is any skin irritation that develops in the diaper-covered area. Mommies should be very particular with diaper and wipes our baby is using. Some prefers cloth diaper over disposable ones because the latter may contain chemicals that irritates the baby's skin more. Baby wipes, on the other hand, is very convenient to use especially when we are out for malling or trip. Choose one which does not contain alcohol and is made up of natural ingredients. When you are at home, it best to wash baby's butt after each poop so that the bacteria will not stay in the skin to lessen infections.

Infant acne are like small whiteheads that often appears on the face. It usually appears when babies are between 2 weeks and 2 months old, and it may disappear after two weeks or may last up to 6 months. Infant acne is cause by the hormones in your system that was acquired by the baby in the utero or from your breatmilk. Symptoms will disappear when the hormones are eventually flashed out from the baby's stream.

Eczema also known as dermititis is the term used to describe a skin condition characterized by red, scaly and itchy skin. Baby ezcema is an unknown cause and  it is believe it's an immune system reaction that can be triggered by certain soaps, creams, allergies and detergents. It may worsen with stress, heat and sweat.

Lastly, cradle cap looks like a a very bad case of dandruff. It looks like a red area in newborn's scalp, covered with greasy, yellow, scalpy patches. This can start to become flaky overtime, so they rub off easily just like dandruff and often with bits of your baby's hair attached. Cradle cap is common in babies under 8 months old and it  usually starts in the first 3 months of life and stays for weeks and months. This is also common to older babies and toddlers. It's harmless and is nothing to worry about. My baby's hair falls off when he was 3 months and I believe it has something to do with this cradle cap. :)

I know you have experience one, two or all of these with your baby. Good thing NIVEA Baby Philippines introduces hypoallergenic baby products and they never get tired of providing us with useful baby care tips.
