What's in my Yumbox Series 2019: Week 1

Six weeks have passed since school started for my little boy. Actually, I have no plan of sharing my bento baon creations here since I am already sharing it at MoMaye's Baon Diary in Facebook and Instagram. But then I changed my mind because I think it will be more helpful for mommies to look at a compilation of bento baon ideas per week.

By the way, I will name this series as What's in my Yumbox Series 2019. So here you will only see snack or lunch baons of my son in a Yumbox.

Now, let me start at the first week of my son's baon in a Yumbox.

34th Philippine Chemistry Congress in Cebu

Two months ago, Daddy A and I attended the 34th Philippine Chemistry Congress in Cebu. If you still don't know, both of us are Licensed Chemist.

Actually we don't regularly attend Chemistry Congress until the Chemistry Profession Act (RA 10657) came, haha. You know the CPD  (Continuing Professional Development) points? For Chemist, we need atleast 45 CPD points to renew our PRC License. But I heard that it's not yet implemented until after 2020 so renew your PRC License na.

Anyway, back to the real topic. We went to Cebu a day before the congress. We had to commute since we chose not to bring a car so we travelled light lang and hand carry na lang din. It's our first time to try the Point to Point bus from Sta. Maria to Trinoma.

Medyo matagal lang nag-antay and sobrang traffic as usual at Bocaue exit. Then since our boarding time is at 4:00 pm, we needed to be at airport at 2:00pm. Dahil traffic sa EDSA, we rode MRT again after so many years, from North to Taft. Then pagbaba ng MRT Taft station, there you can find the shuttle bus going to the NAIA.

We were at the airport before 2:00 pm. Ang hirap magcommute, haha. We just ate our lunch there and we waited for the departure time. Luckily, our flight is not delayed.

We arrived at the Mactan Cebu International Airport at 6:00 PM.

We took the bus shuttle to SM Cebu. We just ate dinner and from there we took a taxi to our booked hotel, Best Western Plus Lex Cebu.

Our room at Best Western Plus Lex Cebu was nice. Pasilip muna and I'll share with you more of it in a separate post.

The 34th Philippine Chemistry Congress was held in Waterfront Hotel, Lahug, Cebu City.

We were so excited to meet our former classmates and our fellow Chemists and Chemical Technicians.

When the crowd disappeared I asked Daddy A to took photos here.

Going back to the 34th PCC, we went to different plenary and parallel sessions related or relevant to the industry we are into.

Aside from the CPD points that we gained, we also acquired learning and updates that are important in our field.

Of course, we are happy to meet our former classmates.

We also got a chance to meet our former mentor and Ninang.

And another very good mentor.

Oh by the way, I would like to introduce the amazing (amazing talaga? haha!) Chemists and Chemical Technician of Bounty Fresh Food, Inc.

The truth is, we didn't get a chance to tour in Cebu.

Except for the 10-minute walk from Waterfront Hotel to Cebu Business Park.

Medyo maaga kasi for our dinner at Isla Sugbu Seafood City so we went muna sa Cebu Business Park. Nagwalking na lang at mahal ang taxi fare, haha.

Yup, we mostly rode taxi from our hotel to the events place because it's out of the jeep route.

Anyway, Cebu Business Park is clean and fresh looking.

Pero kami hindi na fresh looking dahil sa usok at alikabok sa paglalakad namin, haha!

The 3-day event went fast at syempre excited na kami umuwi. Yun nga lang wala ng side tour but it's okay kasi iba pa din ang comfort ng aming home sweet home.

Oopps, did I already mentioned that it was Daddy A's first airplane ride? Truth!

We arrived at Manila lunch time na. Natagalan kami kasi hindi na namin nahand carry ang aming baggage. May nagmomonitor ng weight bago pumasok sa boarding area ng Mactan Cebu Airport. So ending nga nagcheck-in kami ng baggage so ayan mga 30 minutes kami nag-antay sa baggage carousel.

Looking forward to 35th Philippine Chemistry Congress in Bacolod next year!

My son has a Youtube Channel, please Subscribe!

My son loves watching Youtube videos but it's always under supervision. his favorite channel is Ryan ToysReview. So one day he asked me if he can also have his own Youtube channel.

At first, I was hesitant. He convinced me by telling me that he wanted to earn money through posting videos so I can quit my job. Maybe he sees how troubled I am because I can't do what I really love to do. Maybe hesees how I loved to be with him but I can't. And maybe he wants to see me when he get home from school to hug him when he had a bad day.

Just like the other day, when he called me crying. He said his teacher told him he will die because his head bumped the floor and it didn't bleed. He's crying because he's afraid daw to die. My heart is broken. I want to hug him tight but I can't. I want to kiss all his fears away but I am still away waiting for the workday to end.

So I am really troubled and I think I need to share this in another post. For now, I am asking you to please visit my son's Youtube channel. There are few funny videos there and we are apt for more videos, maybe toy reviews or family videos in the future.

Here's one of his funny video.

Please please visit his Youtube channel and don't forget subscribe. You can make one little boy happy. Thank you so much!

Weighted Blanket – a Great Solution for Sleeping Problems and Insomnia

Quality night sleep is extremely important for good health. The lack of proper sleep on a regular basis is linked with the occurrence of many disorders and health issues.

The increased use of technological devices in modern societies results in general sleep deprivation in people. Moreover, disrupted sleeping patterns are also linked to the light emitted from the screens that surround us.

On the other hand, sleeping problems can occur as a symptom of other health conditions or psychological states or disorders. Often linked to anxiety, stress and depression, insomnia is becoming a serious enemy for humanity.

People love to battle with the consequences, not the root of the problem. For that matter, they usually use medication treatment for insomnia. In the short term, it’s a great solution. But, in the long run, it only makes the problem bigger.

One thing that is proven to help alleviate the sleeping problems and is completely safe, is the weighted blanket. It’s a holistic approach to the problem. When used on a regular basis, it offers a permanent and great solution for insomnia, disrupted sleeping and disarranged sleep patterns.

The concept of the Weighted Blanket?

The idea dates back form the early 20th century. Psychiatrists came with a simple solution for calming down children that suffer from severe disorders. They would stuff fabrics with corn or stones in order to provide a weight of a hug from a simple blanket.

The calmness that a hug provides is universal for humans. For disturbed children, the touch of another body was just another huge anxiety trigger. Therefore, a weighted blanket turned out to be the perfect calming touch for the patients. Since then, it’s regularly used in acute psychiatry for patients with anxiety, autism, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression.

What is a Weighted Blanket Today?

Today, a weighted blanket is a product intended for mainstream use. Resembling a regular one, the weighted blanket is filled with microbeads made from plastic or glass. They are evenly spread on the blanket’s surface in order to provide the right amount of additional weight.

Its breakthrough to the mainstream side is an expected occurrence. Its power to calm down a person’s body is highly appreciated in this hectic world. The calming method is proven to encourage sleepy feeling and promote satisfaction. What else can a person wish for these days?

Weighted Blanket for Sleeping Problems and Insomnia

The science behind this therapeutic tool tells a pretty convincing story on the efficiency of the blanket. It says that the additional weight put on your body performs what is called a deep pressure touch stimulation DPT.

The DPT stimulates the nervous system by triggering the nerve endings underneath the skin surface. The consecutive processes that begin there, lead to activation of the parasympathetic system, hence the rest and digest state of the body.

Once the body gets into the resting state, it secretes hormones that promote relaxation and calmness. The most important one is the melatonin hormone. Melatonin is a neurotransmitter that is the only precursor for the body to be able to fall asleep.

When the melatonin levels in the bloodstream increase, the body slowly enters into a deep sleep. These are chemical processes that are powerful enough to put the body into sleep, despite the nature of the sleeping problem a person is facing.

Insomnia might be a cause of another serious illness or as a side effect of certain medication therapy. If this is the case with you, you need to consult your doctor for further recommendations.

Weighted Blanket for Disrupted Sleep-wake Cycle

Living in the technology world, we are constantly surrounded by screens. The lights that we are perceiving with our eyes emitted from our technological devices are disrupting our sleep-wake cycle.

In perfectly natural circumstances, the body regulates the sleep-wake cycle depending on the surroundings. When it’s day and there is light the body knows it should be awake. When it gets dark the body starts releasing melatonin in order to put the body into sleep. Therefore, with constant exposure to artificial light, our body loses track of the normal day-night cycle.

The use of the weighted blanket instantly activates the sympathetic system. This results in the secretion of serotonin and melatonin. Serotonin is responsible for the regulation of the sleep-wake cycle. Melatonin puts the body into sleep. Therefore, with regular use of the blanket, the body re-establishes the balance and manages to maintain a healthy sleep-wake cycle.

Matthew's 9th Birthday + Father's Day Celebration

Since Father's Day fell on Matthew's 9th birthday. we had a double celebration. Which means nakatipid kami, haha.

I can't believe it's been 9 years since we welcome Matthew in this world. And bilis ng taon and soon I know he will have his own world.

Daddy secretly prepared those balloons. Just like Matthew's 8th birthday, we just want a simple celebration with our immediate family.

I prepared a breakfast.

Then we went to hear a mass. Saktong Father's Day so the priest called all the fathers in front to bless them. Matthew went with his Daddy and Lolo.

We chose to have an early lunch because for sure there will be long que to table reservation.

Matthew is so lucky to have a Lolo and Lola who loves him so much. Especially his Lolo who would take a leave from his work to accompany him at our home when our helper left us.

We are lucky to have a son like him. He may not be perfect and I don't want him to be one. It's more than enough that he understands us and our situation. That he's willing to help us to the best that he can.

By the way, here's the cake that we bought from Max's Bakery. This is  Max's Triple Treat cake but he wanted Max's strawberry chiffon cake sana like what we had on his Dad's birthday.

Max's Corner Bakery, Triple Treat Cake, premium cakes

Mas masarap naman kasi yung strawberry chiffon cake e. Hehe. Anyway, we had our lunch at Pizza Hut. We chose the Pizza Hut Panalo Group  Feast for 8 at 1,999 pesos.

It includes 6 pieces crab salad rolls.

Here are the two celebrants.

To my little boy, you've been my strength. No words can describe how much I love you.

Ooops, before I get emotional, here's the gift that he asked from us that day.

Actually, wala na sana gift because I week before his birthday he asked a Casio watch as a gift na daw. Mukhang nalinlang kami e. Hehe.

Casio Watch, gift

So heto na, to these two, I hope you know hoe much I love you both.

Kahit madalas nagbubunganga ako, haha, alam nyo naman lahat yun para sa ikakabuti nyong dalawa. Thank you for making my life easier. Thank you for understanding and loving me even at my unlovable moments. Remember that I will always be here to support, understand and love you no matter what.
