Throwback Thursday: The Joy of Motherhood

Daddy tagged me this photo on FB. Thanks to FB because of it's feature that allows us to see the photos we have posted years ago. And this photo was 4 years ago.

Yes 4 years have passed and this photo was my entry to MomCenter Philippines's Baby and Me photo contest. This was when I was just starting to blog about my experience as a new mother. This was when I was still in doubt if I can sustain this blog.

But look, 4 years had passed and I am still blogging. I have met new cyber friends and I really hope to meet them personally. Also, I grow with this blog and I have gained confidence to express my self. I may not be a one of the best bloggers in town, but I am happy to know I can help someone, somehow.

Let's keep on sharing and blogging, alright?

I am an Absolute Mom!

Being a first time mom (almost 3 years ago, hehe), everything about motherhood is a blind path for me. Though it's natural for a mom to be strict with all the things that involve our precious child.

Safety is always our first concern when it comes to all the foods and liquids our children take in. And water is never an exception, in fact it's one of our top lists.

Thank goodness Absolute Pure Distilled Water is here. It simply gives me a peace of mind that my son is drinking safe water all the time.

Photostory: Reasons to Co-Sleep

Co-sleeping helps breathing regulation. I find this true because when Matt was a newborn, he would sometimes pause as if he's not breathing anymore. I was like crazy that time and I always put my hands on his chest.

Co-sleeping helps to make a healthy heart. Maybe because he feels the warmth of the body around him. Matt loves sleeping on my chest even now and that gives him comfort to help him sleep longer at nights.

Co-sleeping gives you a bonding time. Now I know why even I am a working mom, Matt will always be a Mommy's boy. He loves to wrap his hands around our neck and he likes it to sleep face to face with either Mom or Dad thus facilitates respiration. Because we sleep close together, I can always sense if he has a fever or slight fever. I don't know how but I can always feel if his temperature is beyond normal. So with co-sleeping, I can help him to regulate the temperature of his body.

I fear before that when you co-sleep with your child, he will be less independent. But I am wrong because co-sleeping will make your baby less demanding. Making him more satisfied and thus gives him more assurance that he will always have love and support from you. I find it true again because Matt have less fears and can do things on his own. He's not a shy type, haha.

Another one I fear with co-sleeping is baka madaganan namin sya at di makahinga (suffocation). I also fear Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) but studies suggested co-sleeping can prevent this from happening. I feel much comfortable and protected when Matt is sleeping by my side. I also feel less anxious because I can easily check his breathing and pacify him by tapping while he sleeps. Also, what if there's a fire, I can get him easily right? (God forbids!)

Matt also knows when is bedtime so we don't force him to go upstairs. Co-sleeping provides happy bedtimes and I know Matt always look forward to that each night so he always have sweeter mornings. Matt seldom wakes up with tantrums, he will always wake up with a smile.

For breatsfeeding moms, co-sleeping is very convenient. And because you co-sleep, you don't need to buy expensive moses basket, or crib. It's free!

Those are the advantages of co-sleeping and I know there are disadvantages as well, like less intimacy (parents). But I'm pretty sure you can always find a way with this, lol! Anyway, we are into co-sleeping for 23 months now and my question is when to buy a new bed for my son. That I need to know because our bed is getting smaller :)

Happy Tuesday!

Photostory: Inside a Toddler's Brain

Got this photo from Momcenter Philippines.

So true right? For Matthew, there are some that don't apply like he loves veggie and the hygiene avoidance (okay sometimes he refused to when I am not the one who's doing it for him).

How about your toddler?

Baby Skin Care Tips by Nivea: Different Types of Baby Skin

My son has a sensitive skin that is prone to rashes. Good thing I have learned about tea bath. Since he is having tea bath, skin rashes won’t show off even on hot weather.

Because of my son’s sensitive skin. I am hesitant to buy baby lotion. I have tried applying one brand of baby lotion but his skin feels greasy and perspires more. I feared that because of perspiration, his skin pores will be blocked and will cause rashes.

Then I saw this Nivea Baby Nutri Sensitive Milk Lotion. Of course, it takes me some time to be finally convinced to try this product. Finally, last Chinese New Year, I decided to buy one.  I can’t find any trial pack so I bought this 200-ml bottle.

What really makes me want to try this on my baby is its natural omega 6 lipids plus it has shea butter.

I immediately tried it on my son’s skin. I gently rub an adequate amount on his skin. I observed if he will perspire more. To my surprise, he didn’t and his skin is not greasy.

Every night, I apply it on his skin to keep it hydrated and soft.

Baby skins are different from one another that is why you need to check what his/her skin type is. My son has a dry and sensitive skin that is why Nivea Baby Nutri Sensitive Milk Lotion suits his skin.

Nivea Baby Philippines is always upto date in giving helpful and relevant tips on how to care for our baby's skin and you could find here more details on Different Types of Baby Skin. Baby Skin Care Tips by Nivea: Understanding and Caring for Baby's Skin

Babies are delicate just like their skin. For first time mom like me, caring for my baby's skin is one big task I'm dealing with everyday. Even now that my son is 18 months, I make sure that he is using safe and hypoallergenic baby products.

Aside from using hypoallergenic baby products, giving our children nutritious meals is important too. To ensure that were not adding too much oils and seasonings to their diet, try adding news flavours with the best electric smoker.

The common baby's skin problems are heat rash, diaper rash, infant acne, eczema and cradle cap. Heat rash or prickly heat are tiny red, itchy bumps on the skin. In the Philippines, babies and children as well, are prone to prickly heat because of our humid weather. Aside from using a hypoallergenic soap, I give my son a tea bath everyday. Want to know how? Yes? Okay, I bought tea bags from SM Hypermarket. I'm not promoting though, I bought 100 pieces Natures Pride Green Tea bag for only 82.50 pesos. Put a tea bag in a cup, add hot water then mixed this to about a liter (1-2 tabo) of water that will be used as your baby's last rinse. You can let your baby soak for awhile to better absorb the tea. Tea has natural antioxidants that is very healthy with the skin. But we must always remember that every baby has different skin type so what is okay with my baby will not mean good for your baby too.

Diaper rash, on the other hand, is any skin irritation that develops in the diaper-covered area. Mommies should be very particular with diaper and wipes our baby is using. Some prefers cloth diaper over disposable ones because the latter may contain chemicals that irritates the baby's skin more. Baby wipes, on the other hand, is very convenient to use especially when we are out for malling or trip. Choose one which does not contain alcohol and is made up of natural ingredients. When you are at home, it best to wash baby's butt after each poop so that the bacteria will not stay in the skin to lessen infections.

Infant acne are like small whiteheads that often appears on the face. It usually appears when babies are between 2 weeks and 2 months old, and it may disappear after two weeks or may last up to 6 months. Infant acne is cause by the hormones in your system that was acquired by the baby in the utero or from your breatmilk. Symptoms will disappear when the hormones are eventually flashed out from the baby's stream.

Eczema also known as dermititis is the term used to describe a skin condition characterized by red, scaly and itchy skin. Baby ezcema is an unknown cause and  it is believe it's an immune system reaction that can be triggered by certain soaps, creams, allergies and detergents. It may worsen with stress, heat and sweat.

Lastly, cradle cap looks like a a very bad case of dandruff. It looks like a red area in newborn's scalp, covered with greasy, yellow, scalpy patches. This can start to become flaky overtime, so they rub off easily just like dandruff and often with bits of your baby's hair attached. Cradle cap is common in babies under 8 months old and it  usually starts in the first 3 months of life and stays for weeks and months. This is also common to older babies and toddlers. It's harmless and is nothing to worry about. My baby's hair falls off when he was 3 months and I believe it has something to do with this cradle cap. :)

I know you have experience one, two or all of these with your baby. Good thing NIVEA Baby Philippines introduces hypoallergenic baby products and they never get tired of providing us with useful baby care tips.

Just log on to your facebook account and like NIVEA Baby Philippines. You can also go here for more details: Understanding and Caring for Baby Skin. Don't forget to sign up at Momcenter Philippines and like them on facebook.

It is just 11 days to go before CHRISTmas and blessings just keep on pouring!

First, I would like to thank MomCenter Philippines for choosing me again as their Fan of the Week. It's my 2nd time and its not obvious that I go very frequent on their page :).

Then another big thanks to NIVEA Baby Philippines for choosing my manifesto for their free  Mommy Mundo Urban Mom 24/7 Planner promo.

This is the Mommy Mundo Urban Mom 24/7 Planner that I am very excited to have. I will surely carry it in my bag always!

Here's my manifesto - pledge and promise to take care of your baby's skin:

Choosing what suits my toddler’s sensitive skin is hard. He is growing fast that I think baby wash is not just enough. Good thing I saw this Tenderly Caring Cream Soap from NIVEA Baby Philippines. It is hypoallergenic that is why I immediately tried it on my son. Fortunately, it suits his sensitive skin. That is why from then on, I promise to take care of son’s skin using NIVEA Baby Tenderly Caring Cream Soap. I will try their Nutrisensitive Milk Lotion next time.

Again a Merry Thank You(s) MCP and Nivea Baby Phil.!

MCP November Fan Page: My Baby and Me winner

I was really suprise last night to know that my entry was chosen by MomCenter Philippines as their November Fan Page: My Baby and Me winner.

Here is my entry:

With me is my 16-month old son, Matthew Andrei.

He is the completion of once I thought impossible. I was able to bear all the hardships and pain of carrying him in my womb for 38 weeks, and surviving the day he came out into this world.

Motherhood is something I do not dream of, but when I have tasted the joy it brings I wouldn’t want to quit.He makes our everyday life easier and happier. He takes away all our pains and worries. His laughter, giggles and squeals are far better than any anti-stress medicine available in the market. After a long day of work, I cannot help myself but smile whenever I see his smile. I am being paid by being a Chemist.

I am not paid by being a Mom. Which is more difficult? I must admit, being a mom is more difficult. You have to be on duty 24 hours, you have no rest day and have to work 7 days a week! But this is the most rewarding work on earth and serving your family is the noblest job anyone can have.

I am really proud to be a MOM. That is why sharing this is not just for the contest but for all of us (moms, dads, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, friends, etc) who have Moms. Continue to love and adore our Moms coz they deserve it much.

Thanks again MomCenter Philippines.

FAN OF THE WEEK @MCP

Last October 25, 2011, I was featured as FAN OF THE WEEK of MomCenter Philippines.

How to be a FAN OF THE WEEK? It is just so simple. First like MomCenter Philippines. Join in the discussions, help other moms who needs advice. Be your self and help with all your heart. Helping other moms is what I really like. Sharing what I know, though not a much experienced mom, is very inspiring especially if your informations and advice are appreciated. A simple like or thank you will do. But what really matters at the end of the day is the lessons and knowlegde we learn from different moms. Funny even we do not see each other, we talk as if we knew each other. The daily discussions bond us together.

Though a little late to post here, I just want to tag in another experience in my cyber life as a mommy blogger.

Thank you MCP for providing a venue for us mommies!

Cradle and Cycle: for Our Babies' Protection

I am a chemist (and my husband too) that is why I am very particular with the food my son eats. Aside from food, we make sure that all the things my son use are safe - from shampoo, soap, diaper to toothpaste. We always look at the ingredients or contents of a product before we let him take or use it.

But then again, we almost forgot the nipple/bottle cleanser and detergent soap we are using. Thank you so much to MomCenter Philippines for sending samples of Cradle Baby Bottle and Nipple Cleanser and Cycles Mild Laundry Detergent for Babies.

Because I am super excited, I immediately tried the Cradle Baby Bottle and Nipple Cleanser. You can buy a 200-ml bottle (for travel) and a 500-ml refill.

It is easy to use. You just have to put half of its cup (200-ml) in a 1-L of water, soaked the bottles and nipples and brush. Unlike, the liquid detergent we are currently using, Cradle is easy to rinse and does not leave an odor. You can also use it to wash vegetables and fruits because it is made up of natural and edible ingredients.

Next is the Cycles Mild laundry detergent for babies.

You can choose between powder detergent,

or a liquid detergent.

It is SAFE for baby’s sensitive skin. Unlike other detergents that leaves strong odor and harsh chemicals which might irritates baby’s skin. So this is the brand RECOMMENDED by most PEDIATRICIANS.

Look at my son. He thought these are food, so keep them away from children’s reach.

Thank you MomCenter Philippines for introducing these products to me. Now, I can assure that my son is not just protected inside but outside as well.

Brush Brush Brush!

How time flies! My son is now 17 months and growing so fast. One of his fast developments is that he almost has complete set of teeth. And because of this I am worrying for its early decaying.
Did you know that "Children usually have 20 milk teeth. They start to push through the gums (erupt) at about six months. Most children have all 20 teeth by the age of two or three. However, this can vary so don’t worry if your child’s teeth come in faster or slower than this.
Your child's milk teeth are important for eating, speech, smiling and confidence. They are also important for the development of permanent teeth, so it's very important to look after them." - Caring for your child's teeth

Good thing we started brushing his teeth even before his teeth erupted. We are using the silicone brush that can be inserted into a finger. But when he is starting to bite, we shifted to stages toothbrush. Then, this sure will be enough so hubby brought him a kiddie Mickey Mouse toothbrush from Oral B (sorry I do not have photo of it, I will insert once I got one).
However, just brushing is not enough as I see some yellow stains in his teeth. So we brought hapee kiddie toothpaste. But ooopss! It has fluoride and my son doesn’t know how to spit yet. Fluoride is dangerous to helath when swallowed. According to Wikipedia, children may experience gastrointestinal distress upon ingesting sufficient amounts of flavored toothpaste.

Fortunately, I got information from MomCenter Philippines about this Sansfluo toothgel cleanser that is a non-fluoride toothgel! Without any hesitation I brought one at Mercury Drugstore that cost 91.5025 pesos for a 50-ml tube (I know you want to know the price, lol!)

It comes in two flavours – Orange and Strawberry (which I chose).

As I already mentioned, it is fluoride free! So it is safe for my little son who still not yet know how to spit.

Sansfluo is colorless and does not foam so it is really safe for 0-6 years old children.

Although has no ingredients that might be hafrmul to our children, this should always use under adult supervision.
My son starting to enjoy his new toothpaste/gel and hope he will be able to get rid of tooth decays!

BEST FRIEND: FATHER & SON

This is an entry in MomCenter Philippines' October 2011 Fan Page Contest: Me and  My Bestfriend.

The very first time we have learned that we are going to have a baby, my husband was so happy. Adding up to his excitement and happiness was when he learned we will have a baby boy. Nine months have passed and Matthew Andrei finally came out to this world. From the first time they hold their hands to this very day, the two boys in my life are always together. May it be, playtime, eating time, sleeping time… They are both “makulit”. I know my son will have his very best friend in the person of my best friend also, his Daddy Allan

So proud of my two boys...
