3 Potential Foul Odor Sources

3 Potential Foul Odor Sources

Bad smells tend to stick around for far longer than people would like them to. These odors can originate from any number of sources, but no matter where they come from, you likely want them gone. Here are three odor sources that you need to watch out for.

1. Pets

Pets, especially furry ones, like dogs, cats, and rabbits, leave hairs everywhere, which can lead to your entire home smelling like an animal. Carpeted areas are especially susceptible to odors because they get trapped in the fibers of the carpet. Pet odors can be particularly strong, so you might need to hire professional Knoxville TN odor removal services to totally eliminate them.

2. Kitchen Appliances

Bad smells tend to crop up in the kitchen as well. Almost any appliance can be a source of foul odors, but the ones that use water, such as your dishwasher, are some of the most common because of the mold that can build up. Anything that creates waste is something you should clean regularly, but that does not mean you should rule out appliances such as your refrigerator when searching for the source of an odor.

3. Shoes

If you have some kind of mudroom or another area where you keep dirty shoes, there will be unpleasant odors that originate from that room. This is especially true if you have kids. Kids are prime sources for bad smells, so their coats, shoes, and other items that they wear every day will build up overpowering odors overtime.

While these are potential sources for bad smells, you still have to deal with eliminating those odors. Professional odor removers are the safest option, and you would be best-served defaulting to them. There are ways you can do it on your own, but you never know how successful that will be.

The Importance of Good Sleep

Sleep is a critical part of your daily life, while it might not seem like it, the proper amount of sleep and type of sleep can make a huge difference in how healthy you are, how good you feel, and how your body feels. Sleep is an opportunity to rejuvenate, to relax, and to come back from a hard day that might have been just a little harder than you imagined.

Why Is Sleep Important?

Sleep is one of the most important parts of your health for a few different reasons. Your body needs sleep in order to be able to allow the cells to recover, to allow the body to rest, and to allow the body to recover from the day. With children, sleep encourages growth and development and without it, your child is not only going to be cranky and feel bad, but they are also going to experience growth stagnation and they are going to start to fall behind in overall growth.

Sleep deprivation can lead to a ton of different health concerns. Things like irritability, brain fog, lagging, weight gain, heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure and so much more. These can all be a side effect of not getting enough sleep. It is important that you are not just getting sleep, but that you are also getting good quality sleep. You do need at least a couple of hours of deep sleep each night paired with light sleep as well.

How much Sleep Should I Be Getting?

Sleep is crucial and each age group does need a different amount of sleep in order to be as healthy as possible. For newborns, it is recommended that they get from 14-17 hours of sleep a day. For babies aged four months to eleven months, it is recommended that they get from 12-15 hours of sleep each day. For toddlers aged one year to two years, they should be getting anywhere from 11-14 hours of sleep each day.

With kids ages three to five, they should be getting 10-3 hours of sleep. For Kids age six to thirteen they should be getting 9-11 hours of sleep each day. For kids aged 14-17, they should be getting 8-10 hours of sleep each night. For adults, it is recommended that they get anywhere from 7-9 hours of sleep each night.

How to Get Better Sleep

For some, sleep comes naturally, as soon as you put your head on the pillow you fall asleep and stay asleep. For others, it can be difficult to get the sleep that you want and need. The Link Between Cancer and Your Diet

The Link Between Cancer and Your Diet

We have heard over and again how important a healthy diet is for your long term health. The truth is, though, for individuals who are facing a possible cancer diagnosis, or who have already received a cancer diagnosis, diet can become a crucial part of their recovery journey. Keep reading to learn about how your diet can affect your cancer recovery.

The Diet Problem

The biggest diet problem faced by cancer patients is often a lack of protein in their diet as well as too few calories altogether. Certain forms of cancer treatment can have a dramatic effect on your appetite. The problems arise when you begin consuming too few calories and too few of the right calories. Your body needs all of the fuel it can get in order to work on healing. If your body is not receiving this fuel it can become weaker. This will compound problems like fatigue, weight loss, and even depression.

Diet Tips

When your diet is on track it can help your body fight off infection, build more energy, and improve your outlook.

Eating a healthy balanced diet is not complicated. Here are a few super simple tips to get you started:

Eat small meals throughout the day- If 3 big meals are just too much, try eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day.
  • Pack in the nutrients- If you do not have a huge appetite, then it is important to pack in the nutrients with every bite. Make sure you are choosing foods that are dense in nutrients that your body needs rather than empty calories.
  • Learn your triggers and stay away- If certain foods or cooking smells make eating hard, then make sure you avoid these items.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • If eating often enough is a challenge set a timer as a reminder.

Special Considerations for Mesothelioma

It is especially important for Mesothelioma patients to get enough protein each day. Grains and sugar should be kept low, while protein and dense starchy vegetables should be kept high. Many patients find it helpful to add a high protein, high calorie liquid nutritional supplement as well. These are convenient, require no cooking or meal prep, and can make up for nutritional deficits.

Foods That Help

There are certain foods that have been identified as beneficial for cancer recovery. Be sure to work these foods into your day when you can.
  • Omega 3 Fats- These nutrients are found mostly in fatty fish.
  • Fiber- Fiber is crucial to stabilizing insulin levels and some studies show that it slows cancer cell growth.
  • Spices- Certain spices such as turmeric, basil, rosemary, mint, dill, and others have been linked with anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activity.

When discussing your prognosis information with your doctor, be sure to discuss your current diet and any changes that can be made to better help you on your road to recovery.

Why Women Sacrifice Self Care for Chores

Self-care might be a popular buzzword, but that doesn't mean that it's always embraced. Women, in particular, tend to let self-care fall to the wayside, prioritizing household chores and other commitments. But, by spending their time cooking or picking up pet waste instead of putting themselves first, these women are facing a much greater sacrifice.

Sacrifice & Care-Taking

Why Women Sacrifice Self Care for Chores

One of the most significant societal constructs that keep women from embracing self-care is their expected roles of wife and mother. In the perceived ideal of both of these roles, there is a strong emphasis on self-sacrifice or "mommy martyrdom." From the first trimester through the rest of her life, a mother is expected to put her child's comfort and safety above her own. It's practically a societal obligation that she forgoes her own well-being, much less a self-care regimen, in the name of caring for her child or children.

But it isn't just the responsibilities of motherhood or family life that present this constrain. Women are met with conventional standards and expectations to care for others throughout their lives and in their various roles. The perfect woman cares for her family, stays one step ahead at work, plays therapist to her friends, and maintains a spotless home, ready for guests to drop by at a moment's notice. In every aspect of her life, it's assumed that she'll err on the side of self-sacrifice. With or without children, women are expected to care for those around them before they even consider taking care of themselves.

At its simplest, women are expected to meet a stereotype: there's just no time for self-care. After all, going shopping isn't just an hour at her favorite department store. If she doesn't already shop, she might not even have a favorite store—by the time she searches for "women's clothes near me" and finds a store that meets her budget and needs, she's used up her kids' naptime. And, when dishes need to be done, dinner needs to go in the oven, and dusting's been put off a whole month too long, that time is precious.

The Importance of Self-Care

Chances are, you already know that self-care is important. You might laugh and think, "Gee, I'd love to sit in the bathtub with a glass of wine and a good book every night. But who has the time?" If you care about your well-being—and that of your loved ones—you'll make that time.

As the popular adage explains, you can't pour from an empty cup. If you aren't taking care of yourself—opting for quick foods (or skipping meals) or cutting back on sleep in favor of chores—your health will eventually suffer. Multi-tasking can only get you so far—you might be super mom, but you're still human.

Stopping the Sacrifice Cycle

You want to be around for your children, family, or the other people in your life for as long as possible, right? By making the effort to prioritize self-care, you can help ensure that you're around for many years to come. Research some simple self-care ideas and choose one or two to try when you have even just a few minutes to spare. Communicate with your partner, roommates, or others in your life to make sure tasks are being split fairly, regardless of gender roles or societal norms— if you're cooking dinner, couldn't you let your spouse load the dishwasher? If you live alone or otherwise need an extra hand, ask a friend if they'd be willing to lend a hand with some of the chores you're struggling with.

Hate cleaning up after fluffy? A quick search for "dog poop removal Algonquin IL" will lead you to Scoop Troop, a company that'll keep your lawn feces-free while you take a few extra minutes to take care of yourself. Research that new clothing store while you're at it and enjoy some shopping-centric "me time!"

Realizing that you're sacrificing self-care in favor of chores and other responsibilities is the first step towards breaking that cycle. Whether you talk to your spouse about managing expectations, hire a professional to help with certain chores (and give you more free time), or consciously take advantage of free moments in your day, you can stop sacrificing your own well-being and stick around for a long, happy life.

3 Benefits of Satellite Television

3 Benefits of Satellite Television

There are many ways people can find entertaining programs to watch nowadays. One of the options is satellite television, which provides clear images, a large variety of channels and works well even in remote areas.

1. Clear Images

While satellite television used to be known for being unreliable in inclement weather, technological advancements have improved the quality of the signal. The picture is often better than what is offered by cable television, as the signal is not diluted by traveling through wires for long distances. The satellite dishes have also gotten much smaller and less expensive over the past few decades. People who get satellite dish installation Florence KY in modern times will not have to worry about large, bulky equipment taking up space in the yard or on the roof.

2. Variety of Channels

The signal can provide a large number of channels to viewers, and in some cases, the selection offered exceeds that of cable companies. Satellites can transmit signals from anywhere on the planet, so it is possible to get shows from many different sources. This can be great for people who would like to access programming from different countries or in other languages.

3. Works in Remote Areas

In areas that are not serviced by cable television, the best option may be using a satellite service. Three Things to Look Out for When Purchasing an Older Home

When purchasing a new home, most buyers look at important features like price, the size of the bedrooms, the proximity to necessary amenities, and square footage. But new homeowners often overlook important details that can put you at risk. Here are a few red flags to look out for when buying an older home.

Lead Paint

Lead paint was banned in the US in 1978, but many homes built before then may still have traces of it. Lead paint is not as dangerous to adults as it is to children - but it’s still a dangerous substance that can cause health complications if ingested. Babies and young children have been known to eat lead paint chips and get sick. So, It’s especially important to keep an eye out for lead paint in your home if you have children. Most states have laws that require the disclosure of lead paint in the home. But in some instances, this detail may slip through the cracks. If you’re unsure of whether the home your buying lead pain may have, consult your realtor or have the paint in the home inspected before closing.

Mold is a type of fungus that grows in moist places like basements, kitchens, and bathrooms. Not all mold is toxic but some strains cause disease and it's always unsightly. Black mold can be very dangerous, especially if ingested. If you live in an area that has a lot of rainfall or it’s near a body of water, be on the lookout for mold. Most homes in America have a mold issue at some point. But conscientious homeowners take care of the problem before it gets out of hand. If you’re purchasing an older home, especially one that may need some improvement, look out for mold. You can either have an inspector come out and check for it or just use your sense of smell. Homes with a mold problem often smell musty and damp – like an old pair of gym socks or a wet dog.

Asbestos is another problem found in older homes. It’s a material that was used heavily in construction in the 18th and 19th centuries until it was discovered that exposure causes debilitating lung diseases. The material is still not officially banned in the US, but its usage is more stringently regulated and has decreased dramatically over the years. Many homes contain asbestos unbeknownst to the owner because it was used in common products like insulation, roofing, and floor tiles. Asbestos is extremely damaging to your health and if you discover the presence of the material in your home you should go through the proper channels to have it removed. Check out Asbestos.Net for resources on what to do if you discover any asbestos and the rights you have to hold negligent companies responsible for putting you at risk.

Those are the major items to look out for when purchasing an older home. They can be tough to detect with the untrained eye and can put your family at risk. Consult your realtor or home inspector to check for any of these potential dangers.

Tips for Creating the Perfect Guest Bedroom

Tips for Creating the Perfect Guest Bedroom

For many homeowners that love entertaining, the design focus tends to be on the living room, dining room and other spaces where guests usually gather to hang out. In your efforts to be a good host, you should also prioritize providing an overnight visitor a comfortable space to lay their head. The guest bedroom is an important element to being a good host. Here are some things to think about.

Providing a Good Night’s Rest

Perhaps the most important part of a guest bedroom is the bed. Although the size of the room will limit the size of the bed, try to provide a queen size bed if you can swing it. A queen bed can fit most couples comfortably. Look for a medium firm mattress to suit most people for a few nights of rest. One can be found at nearly any price point. Think of this bedroom as a hotel room. There should be ample pillows for the bed and choose linens that are of the proper thickness for the time of year.

Offering Entertainment

Many people like watching TV or listening to music before bedtime. A wall-mounted flat screen television provides entertainment without taking up much space. With an internet connection, your guest can enjoy entertainment via popular streaming video and music services. You might also consider exploring Dish Network packages Yuma AZ to offer cable and local media for a visitor to enjoy during their stay.

Pampering Guests

One sign of a well-appointed space is a bathroom that encourages visitors to pamper themselves. Offer several plush bath linens for your guests to use. White towels will be reminiscent of a luxurious spa facility. Add a robe or two and splurge a bit on toiletries to complete your bathroom.

When you have a nice guest bedroom, you’re ready to entertain an overnight stay, especially at short notice. A great host addresses all the details for a superior experience.. Although you don’t need to recreate your master bedroom, some basic luxuries and amenities can make the difference.

3 Things To Consider Before You Move

3 Things To Consider Before You Move
photo source:  fizkes / Getty Images

Moving is an intense process that can be both physically and emotionally taxing. You are constantly wondering whether you have thought of everything or if you have forgotten something important. Here are three things you may not have thought about that you need to address before you move.

1. Food

Aside from the hiring of long distance moving services Nashville TN, another thing to consider is the food currently in your refrigerator. You do not want to waste food, but you also cannot bring much of that food with you over long distances. So, in the days and weeks leading up to your move, buy and eat your food strategically to leave as few leftovers as possible.

2. Storage

Even though you likely have a new home waiting at your destination, it can sometimes be helpful to temporarily rent a storage unit near where you plan on moving. After a long day of driving to your new location, you likely will not have the energy to begin decorating your home, so you can have the movers drop all your furniture off in a storage unit until you are ready to decorate.

3. Mail

Nowadays, many services request your address so that they can send you promotional items or other important information. So, make sure that the services you care about are aware of your new address. You will need to ask your post office to forward all of your mail to your new address for several months to come until everyone is aware of your new location.

Moving is stressful. There is no way around that. However, if you can keep all your ducks in a row and manage all your resources properly, everything has the potential to go off without a hitch. Stay positive and confident and your whole family will be grateful.

#SustainAbilidad: Quarantine Waste Management

With the current pandemic and quarantine restriction being imposed, residential wastes are increasing. Since limited lang and dine in, we tend to always have take out or delivery orders. Kaya naman ang mga basura natin sa bahay ay mas marami kaysa dati.

It's important for us to learn proper waste management to help our community and government. In line with this, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) launched its Environment Sustainability Education campaign through online platform, Cookmunity® by Ajinomoto Philippines.

From the Press Release Kit:

There’s no denying that Filipino’s lifestyle, habits and consumption patterns have radically changed after six months into the community quarantine due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). As we are compelled to stay at home, we have relied more on deliveries for food, online shopping, and other essentials – posing additional environmental challenges because of our increased municipal solid waste (MSW) and hazardous waste.

Even before the pandemic, the Philippines has been navigating through overwhelming volume of waste. According to a 2015 report by the Ocean Conservancy and McKinsey Center for Business and Environment, the Philippines ranks third among the world’s highest contributors to the global marine plastic pollution problem.

But were you aware that household waste contribute to the biggest chunk of solid wastes in the country? The National Solid Waste Management Status Report 2008 – 2014 of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) showed that residential waste constitutes the bulk of MSW (56.7 percent), followed by commercial sources and public or private markets (27.1 percent).

Now, the biggest challenge is for us to break old habits and adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. Through its business activities, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) has always been committed in engaging in initiatives that solve social issues which include global sustainability. With environment educational campaign dubbed as #SustainAbilidad, APC aims to aid consumers to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily activities. This campaign includes social media promotions featuring Super Suzy and her kid, the main characters representing ordinary people that champion global sustainability to teach and inspire young and old members of their family and community to bring out their “SustainAbilidad”.

Here are a few reminders from Super Suzy on managing our household waste:

#SustainAbilidad: Quarantine Waste Management

While we may have taken a number of steps backwards because of the pandemic, it’s not too late for every household to start sustainable practices. Segregating at source is a good start for every household as proper waste management is crucial not just for the environment but also for mitigating infectious disease transmission. Two Weeks of Online Learning/Schooling

Two weeks ago, the online schooling of our son started.

At first, ako yung nasstress since we are both working and we still don't know how this new normal schooling will happen. Good thing there's a dry run before the first day. Medyo nagka-idea na kami how the online learning will go through.

I made sure also that all the things he needed are on his table na so he don't need to stand pa and look for his things.

I like that his table is spacious. You can read our online class preparation to check this table.

The first day happened in an hour lang. Kung baga orientation muna. Their adviser discussed the schedule and the online class rules. Yes, there are rules too.

My son adjusted so well. It's one of the advantages of techie kids today. They learn to navigate computer applications so fast. By the way, they are using Microsoft Teams and an educational platform Nuadu.

It's an advantage also that they are only 3 in the class, from 19 students when they are in Grade 4. Most of his classmates transferred to public school kasi. So they are only 3 kaya parang tutorial lang nangyayari, which I think made my son adjust well.

Their online class covers the five major subjects only. The school followed Dep Ed's recommendation na 1.5 hours per day lang ang online exposure ng mga bata. So Monday, Wednesday, Friday, they will study Science, Mathematics and English. While on Tuesday and Thursday, it's Filipino and Araling Panlipunan naman. Like what I have said, 1.5 hours lang online discussion in a day kaya nahati yun sa mga subjects nila per day. After the online discussion, they will work on their books or do activities.

At this time, medyo kampante na kami with how his online class is doing. We are monitoring him through the Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° that we purchased. Momshs, I highly recommend it because it is so useful. Parang nandoon ka din while they in their class.

Maganda din na sya lang yung nasa bahay at walang distraction. Hindi din sya nahihiyang magparticipate and makipagcommuincate sa teachers at classmates nya. Hopefully, magtuloy tuloy lang yung ganito. I know it's still early to tell because they still don't have their long examination.

Kapit lang mga Momshs!

How's your kids doing on their online class/school?

Ways to Unwind During Quarantine

Ways to Unwind During Quarantine
Africa Studio -

We're living in crazy times. Seriously, how many other times have we ever experienced a world-changing pandemic? With all the hubbub of the outside world causing inner stress, it's understandable that you might be in serious need of some time to wind down from it all. Here are a few of our favorite tips for restoring calm, sanity, and peace during these unprecedented times:

Write out your thoughts! After all, fifty years ago people might be reading it as historical data. Jokes aside, according to the University of Rochester, journaling is a beneficial way to improve your mental health. Simply grab a pen and paper, and start writing it out. You'll be better able to pinpoint your stress areas if you're writing them out each day, and then you can start to create a plan of action to attack those nasty feelings once and for all!

The gym might be closed, but that doesn't mean you can't get a sweat on from home! We all know about the benefits of exercise on our minds and bodies, so if you're feeling particularly crummy — maybe it's time to get a move on! UCLA Health put together this awesome article full of easy at-home exercises that will allow you to get a sweat on right from your living room. You don't have to leave quarantine with a six-pack, but just getting in a few minutes of movement each day will do wonders for your mental health!

Flights and travel aren't really a thing right now, but you can still escape the current state of the world! Grab a movie and make yourself a laid-back movie night filled with popcorn and soda, or build a fort even. You can also finally get around to reading that book all your friends have been recommending, or break open those watercolors that have been sitting in your craft drawer for months. By allowing yourself to escape into a new hobby or activity, you'll be giving your brain a break for a moment from all the craziness going on in the world. It's like a little mental vacation — and there's no passport required!

Professional Help

If you feel like you've tried all these things and are still feeling stuck, then it's time to consider seeing a mental health practitioner for additional assistance. For example, you could see a therapist Lakewood CO and partake in telehealth visits that begin to address your underlying issues, current day problems, and practical solutions.
