Five Unique Gifts that are Perfect for a Baby Shower

Thursday, August 30, 2018

Baby showers are fun events and I always find it super-exciting to be invited to one. However, choosing a gift isn't as easy and simple as with other occasions. The purpose of a baby shower is to give the soon-to-be parents things that they will need once the little bundle arrives.

The best baby shower gift is something that the parents can, and will actually, use. Baby clothes can be cute but won't amount to anything after just a few weeks of wear. That bath basket can be helpful, but don't be surprised if almost everyone on the guest list has brought them.

To make sure that your gift won't go to waste, find something that is practical yet uncommon. You don't want the parents to be inundated with gifts that will just gather dust or worse, be thrown away after a few weeks. Here are five baby shower gifts that are unique, as well as useful.

1. Changing Mat

A changing mat is an essential part of having a newborn, and a portable changing mat can make the new parents' lives easier. More so if you give one that also has pockets for diapers, creams, phones, or even your keys.

To make the gift unique, get a changing mat that also doubles as a diaper bag. Make sure it is sturdy enough to carry all that the parents need when traveling with their baby. They'll surely thank you for it.

2. Nail Trimmer

Cutting the newborn's nails can be pretty scary, especially if this is their first baby. It's a nail-biting experience but not as hard as you think. According to healthychildren.org, it's important to keep the baby's nails short and once you get the hang of it, it's fairly simple.

Give the parents a nail trimmer designed specifically for newborns. There are clippers that use electricity and there are some that come with files and LED lights and all those bells and whistles. Truly a unique gift.

3. Soothing Sound Gadgets

It is a given that new parents will lose sleep for the next couple of months,  even years, for that matter. Help them get some much-needed rest by giving them something to make the baby sleep through the night, and a soothing sound machine will do just the trick!

These gadgets emit sounds or lullabies that will help the baby relax. They will feel comfy, safe, and ready for a good night's sleep, and the parents can get some much needed rest themselves.

4. Baby Photo-shoot Sessions

If you want a gift that keeps on giving, why not give them a gift card for a professional photo session for the baby? This unique gift will keep all the memories well and alive for years to come. Even the baby will get to enjoy seeing these photos when they grow up.

5. Custom Baby Diaper Cakes

Functionality and cuteness come together in this unique gift— a custom baby diaper cake. No, it's not something you'll eat at the baby shower; it's a cake made of diapers. Layer upon layer of diapers that come in a cake-like arrangement.

These custom diaper cakes can be customized to any color or theme along with extra goodies that are really helpful for the expecting parents. If you want a unique gift, this is what you're looking for.

Wrapping Up

Shopping for a baby shower need not be a challenge. It can be a wonderful experience especially when you see that the parents appreciate your gift. With this list, you can get a gift that is both useful and memorable, making the event more enjoyable for the parents.

Sunday's Best: World of Fun Re-visited + the Coming Halloween

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

Sundays are for family.

After a week of spending most of our times outside home at work, we see to it that we give our whole Sunday to our little boy. So after hearing a mass, we usually go to the nearest mall and let him have fun.

One of his favorite place to visit is World of Fun.

Once he entered World of Fun, he's unstoppable. He first tried picking stuffed toys at this prize-dispensing machine. However, he is not lucky enough to pick one. Maybe next time anak.

His first visit at World of Fun was when he was just 1 year old. At that time he still can ride the kiddie rides there. But now that he's a big boy, he appreciate the games like this.

It was a day full of fun for him, and since he can't get enough, we went again there one Sunday.

This time, he tried the fishing game.

He also tried riding one of the kiddie rides that can still carry him. We also allowed him to play video games, where he enjoyed the most.

Aside from the above games, there are sports game like basket ball and bowling, shooting games, dance and music games, and KTV rooms and videoke stage. You can watch our Instagram stories for the videos.

By the way, August will be over soon. Ber months are coming. That was so fast right? I am sure everyone is looking forward to Christmas holidays. But, not too fast, because before Christmas, there's Halloween.

In our country, not all are fond of celebrating Halloween but there are many malls now that are having Trick or Treat events yearly. In other part of the world though, Halloween is one of the exciting holidays children are waiting for to dress up to their favorite characters. So Halloween, like Christmas, is one of the their largest spending holidays. Check out the Halloween spending statistics.

In the coming years, I know Halloween will evolve and be a bigger celebration here. I am also sure that my son will be one of those children who will dress up in their favorite character, and who's his favorite character? No other than Iron Man!

Do you have Sunday's best stories too? Let me hear from you.

Tips on Creating Your Dream Wedding Cards & More On a Budget

Wednesday, August 22, 2018

Last month, we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. It was just a simple celebration because of our very busy schedule. Then just this month I had my first ever ninang experience as a wedding sponsor.

It's all about weddings, which makes me reminisce our own wedding 10 years ago wherein Daddy A and I personally took care of everything from wedding invitations to the wedding dresses. Here's our wedding invitation that I personally designed.

wedding, wedding tips, saving money, saving tips, planning a wedding, how to save for your dream wedding, home, featured post, wedding invites, customized wedding invites, wedding websites, Basic Invite, do it your self

We chose to have all be personalized so we can save on our wedding expenses and of course to follow our dream wedding. So imagine that was 10 years ago, and how much now it cost to get married and have your dream wedding.

But no worries because you can have your dream wedding without spending too much. Here are some tips:

Plan your wedding

First, you need to plan your wedding. Plan the date, your preferred venue, number of guests, food to serve, honeymoon and other wedding needs. From this, you can have an estimate how your dream wedding will cost.

Start saving

You can start to save after planning your wedding or you can start first by saving for your wedding. Better to save than go into debt for your wedding. Begin by putting aside a regular amount of cash every month and it will grow as months to your wedding come.

Set a budget

Even if you have savings, you need to set a budget for your wedding and stick with it. You don't want to start your marriage life with zero bank account right?

Do It Your Self

You can definitely save with do it your self wedding. You can do create your wedding souvenir, personalized your wedding candle, bible and others. You can also design or customize your wedding invitation. Today, there are so many wedding websites where you can find the best wedding invitation cards.

One of the mobile friendly and easy to use wedding websites is the Basic Invite. They have free wedding invites that are completely customizable. You can choose from their 180 custom colors and can also choose a design to match your wedding invitation suite. All you need to do is upload your wedding details with photos that you can order as a printed sample so you can see how it actually look as well as the paper quality. You can also add a direction map for your guest.

Basic Invite has 900 wedding invitation sets that include everything from save the dates to wedding invitations and enclosure cards, wedding menus, wedding programs and also thank you cards.

wedding invites, customized wedding invites, wedding websites, Basic Invite

There are over 40 different colors of peel and seal envelopes you can choose from for your wedding invitations. Also available are the Seal and Send Wedding Invitations, which are all-in-one wedding invitation with a tear-off RSVP postcard. You can choose from over 30 designs including their popular foil options. Seal and Sends doesn't need any envelope because the guest's addresses are printed on front of each invitation. You just need to share a link, collect the guest addresses, upload them onto the chose design and secure them with die cut stickers. Easy, time saving right?

You can follow @basicinvite on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter for updates.

Be your own wedding coordinator

Hiring a wedding coordinator is expensive so instead of hiring one, be your own wedding coordinator. That is if you have time that's why you really need to plan your wedding.

Find cheap but quality suppliers

Look for suppliers of cheap but quality wedding needs. You go to wholesale place like Divisoria where you can find really cheap wedding supplies especially if you will buy in bulk.

Buy personally

If you have time, you can buy your wedding needs personally. This way you can negotiate with suppliers as well.

Those are just some tips on how to have your dream wedding on a budget. I bet you still have other saving tips, please do share with us.

First Ninang Duties Experience

Monday, August 20, 2018

Two weeks ago, I had my first ever ninang duties to Matthew's first yaya.

I was hesitant at first because I felt that I was too young to be a principal sponsor in a wedding, haha. In denial ba? Hehe. But my little boy reminded me that it's okay since she (the first yaya) was the first one who helped us took care of him when he was just 2-month old.

His exact word was "Bakit Mommy, okay lang naman po yun kasi sya naman nagpalaki sa akin e."

I was speechless hearing that. I was complaining kasi to Daddy A because I couldn't find a dress. He's in the back seat and I thought he was just sleeping. When he said that tagos sa puso... Oo nga naman, we have utang na loob to her. For two years, he helped us taking care of Matthew. She just left us because he had to go abroad and if only we can afford her salary abroad we will not let her go.

Anyway, my heart is full because for an 8-year old to say that, I maybe doing a good job raising him. At an early age, he knows how to be grateful.

Back to the ninang duties na. Here's me with Daddy A.

He helped me with my make up and he also fixed my hair. Yeah, seriously. Kuripot mode kasi namamahalan ako sa pa-make up e, haha. But I look simply good naman hindi ba?

Matthew was the bible bearer naman.

We arrived a little early so we are able to took some photos.

Everyone was telling me that my dress was beautiful. I rented it at 600 pesos only.

Oh my little boy grows so fast, why oh why?

Of course, there's a procession (is that how it's called) to the altar. Here's me with another ninong.

And my little boy with a flower girl.

Honestly, I am not fond of attending weddings. The last wedding I attended was our wedding 10 years ago. Which made me think if it  was just a coincidence that after our 10th year, I will have my first ninang duties?

All the memories of our wedding flashed in. It's like we are renewing our vows. Feeling ko we are the ones in front of the altar e. Haha!

It was a great experience although I feel awkward when a lady who's like a lola to me na called me mare, haha. No offence meant po.

Here are some of the photos by our official photographer, Daddy A. Me with the newly weds and the ninangs and ninongs.

And Matthew with the flowers girls and boys.

Again, I never thought I will enjoy this day but I did. I like that I had a  break with my daily routine and dress up and wear make up. But even if I enjoyed this day, no second ninang duties muna soon, haha.
