For women who have opted to stay home with the children or those who run a business from home, the world of parenting can be perplexing. It’s a rewarding feeling to be home and available for your children whenever they need you. Yet, when you’re always around, those warm and fuzzy feelings you have about your family seems to fade. There’s less time for you, it’s difficult to focus, and no matter what progress you make, there always seems like there’s more to be done. How do stay at home moms do it without going insane? A lot of luck, prayers, and productive daily habits.

Stay at Home Moms Have to Be Careful

Moms in the workforce certainly have their hands full, but when you’re home for what seems like 24/7 tending to the house, kids, your spouse, and potentially a side business, it’s a lot. Unfortunately, some women aren’t prepared for the emotionally and physically draining process it can be. This ongoing feeling and mounding pressure can result in mental health problems and self-medicating practices that are hard to beat on your own. Having a schedule or routine can make things easier. Set a work schedule, a time for chores, nap time for the kids, errand time, and of course, some down time for yourself.

Dress to Feel Good

Some stay at home moms feel like it’s pointless to get dressed up if they’re going to be in the house all day, but wearing yoga pants and sweatshirts with a messy bun all day can put a damper on your mood. Dress to feel good every day. You don’t have to put on corporate business attire, but take the time each day to do your hair, put on a little makeup, and dress in something stylish.

Connect with Friends

Your female friends are an integral part of your life and maintaining your sanity. Find ways to spend time with the girls more. You can invite them over for lunch, have their children over for a playdate, or plan monthly meetups at your favorite restaurant.

Exercise

Your health should remain a top priority as a stay at home mom. Make sure that you’ve added exercise to your daily routine. Pull out the jogging stroller and go for a run at the park, walk the kids to school instead of driving them, or when the baby is asleep, pop in your favorite workout video and burn some calories.

Talk to Your Spouse

Even though you’re home all day, it doesn’t make your job as a mom any easier. Talk to your spouse about helping you out. Perhaps you need them to monitor some of the after school activities, spend time with the kids while you cook dinner, or help out in some other way.

Being a stay at home mom is a blessing. Not having to choose between your career and child, being home to tend to the needs of the family, and watching your children grow up in ways you might miss if you had to go to work is all worth it. There’s another side to this coin, however. When you’re home all the time, you sacrifice a lot that can sometimes overwhelm you.
